Roberto Rossellini would have been 100 years old in Spring 2006. The great Italian director who made film history with Rome, Open City also came to fame as the man cought between the two most beautiful women of his day, Anna Magnani and Ingrid Bergman. His daughter Isabella now gives him this birthday present: a unique book of images and memories of her beloved father. Includes a bonus DVD of My Dad Is 100 Years Old. A film directed by Guy Maddin, written and starring Isabella Rossellini and produced by Jody Shapiro.

‘Few children grow up to honour the centenary of their father’s birth by making a film and publishing a book with its script at its centre, alongside letters between her parents, commentary from the likes of Truffaut and Fellini, numerous drawings and some implausibly glamorous photographs’ -Alex Clark, The Observer

This really is a strange book. But I like it a lot. Basically it is a remembrance, a very imaginitive tribute, from Isabella Rossellini to her father Roberto, but featuring contributions from the like of Ingrid Bergman and David Lynch. There is also a free dvd of a film written by Isabella and directed by the Canadian maestro Guy Maddin ('The Saddest Music in the World', 'Archangel', and most recently and brilliantly 'My Winnipeg')... The film, entitled, 'My father is 100 years old' and it is moving and funny- Roberto is represented by a giant belly. Altogether an odd, a very odd, book, but if you're a fan, it's fun.
